CoolFlux BSP extends the classic 24/56 bits CoolFlux DSP design with hardware support for 12/28-bit complex arithmetic, 2x12/28-bit Single Instruction Multiple Data (SIMD) parallelism and a larger 24-bit addressing space. All these enhancements are available through the highly efficient Instruction Level Parallelism (ILP) optimizing C compiler. Combined with the compact highly parallel instruction coding the results are: small memory footprints and up to 20 operations per cycle when performing 12/28-bit complex MACs. Specific instructions available for efficient Viterbi and FFT butterflies. Targeted products include software defined radio basebandss, wireline modems digital basebands and (networked) sensors, possibly combined with (portable) audio devices, the latter thanks to the backwards compatibility at C-level with the 24/56-bits classic CoolFlux DSP, also leveraging its large code base. Keeping up with the CoolFlux DSP design principles, CoolFlux BSP is well balanced with respect to ultra low power, good performance and low gate count and C-compiler friendly. Data and accumulator registers can store complex numbers with 12-bit and 28-bit precision for both real and imaginary parts. Complex arithmetic hardware has been added in order to improve the performance of signal processing in the complex domain, with new instructions for complex multiplication, addition, subtraction, division, conjugate and CORDIC operators for Polar-Cartesian conversion. In addition to complex arithmetic, the CoolFlux BSP can operate as a SIMD processor by dividing data and accumulator registers in two components, giving a performance boost of x2 for many kernels.
